The nerds call the cool kids irrelevant, when we ought to be throwing a better party! The potential for a university is for nerds to frequently demonstrate to the world that our lives are better (not wealthier), inspired, and curious with students and the broader community. And so often, we our fields do medieval self-flagellation instead. As you say, of course the problem is our labor issues. But I don't think you win ground back in the labor market from seeming to hate culture and teaching and learning, and only speaking up to "critique." You win it back by showing that you're having a blast despite the haters (and giving a very carefully directed middle finger of critique to the hypocrite politicians who defund education).

Love this! Ok, let me know when and where - I am definitely down to throw a better party. I mean, come on, the philosophers are the original toga partiers!!! Let's make it happen. In solidarity.
